On the field of the Self stand a knight and a dragon
You are the knight
Resistance is the dragon
_Steven Pressfield
For two years now an Idea has been circulating in my mind. Of the kind that is timid in their appearance in the background, and as soon as we reach a “that’s enough” moment in our lives, it jumps right into the center of the stage and shouts “Here I am, I came to take you to the next level”.
For some months now I have been gathering my courage and finally decided to take the big step. To follow the Idea. To see where it will take me. To let go. To dare.
And Resistance has fallen upon for me. My Internal Saboter.
I know her well.
We all know her.
It is our part that does not want us to change, to grow, to become a better, happier, truer version of ourselves.
Her purpose is to obstruct us, distract us, prevent us from doing our work. Whatever that may be. To start a new job. A new relationship. A new therapy protocol. To move to a new house. To start on a Diet. To start working out.
And these past few days she seems to be winning. She has put me in a phase of self-doubt. She has made me feel fear. That I did not take everything into consideration. That I might be wrong.
For a moment I almost succumbed. Almost stopped. Then I remembered.
That every time I decide to change something important in my Life, the Dragon appears. But as Steven Pressfield says, “Fear is good. That’s a good sign. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do.
The more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it. Resistance is experienced as fear; the degree of fear equates to the strength of Resistance.
Therefore the more fear we feel about a specific enterprise, the more certain we can be that that enterprise is important to us and to the growth of our soul. That’s why we feel so much Resistance. If it meant nothing to us, there’d be no Resistance. Fear is good. It’s a pointer. It tells us what to do.
The more scared we are of a work we have undertaken or a “call” we feel, the more confident we can be that we must do it, that this venture is important to us and to the development of our souls. If it wasn’t important to us, there would be no Resistance.
Like a magnetized needle floating in water, the Resistance will constantly show us the true North – what it wants most of all to prevent us from doing. We can use it as a compass. We can navigate, letting it guide us into that Action that we must follow most of all.
Because the more important it is for the evolution of our souls, the greater the Resistance we will feel in the pursuit of its realization. ”
So I keep on going. Unstoppable. Even proud of myself. Because it seems I’m on the right path!?
